Refractive Errors

 

 

Myopia (Short Sight):Objects can be seen at near clearly however objects in the distance are blurry. Also known as nearsighted. Options for correction are glasses or contact lenses. Can also be corrected with refractive surgery.

 

Hyperopia (Far Sight):Objects in the distance are clearer than objects at near. Also known as longsighted. Options for correction are glasses or contact lenses. Can also be corrected with refractive surgery such as Lasik or PRK (photorefractive keratectomy).

 

Astigmatism:The cornea, at the front of the eye, and the lens, inside the eye, have different shapes, some areas are flat and steep. Options for correction are glasses, contact lenses. Can also be corrected with refractive surgery.

 

Presbyopia:This is developed with age, where the eye lenses do not change shape easily and this makes it difficult to read and see things at near. Options for correction are corrective glasses or lenses. Surgical options are also available include intraocular lenses implanted.
