Can Listening To Mozart Improve Your Vision?

There have been many studies carried out claiming that if you listen to classical music it can possibly improve your performance at work or school. There has now been a study to find out if listening to Mozart can improve your vision as well.

The study has been carried out in Brazil with medical students. The researchers carrying out the study had two groups of 30 medical students in each. One group listened to Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos for 10 mins and the other group sat quietly for 10 minutes with no music. Both groups then carried out a test which helps indicate if someone suffers with blinds spots or peripheral vision irregularities. It has been suggested that the medical students that listened to 10 minutes of Mozart prior to taking the test, did better than the medical students who did not listen to the music and just sat quietly.

Previously, researchers and scientists have carried out many studies and linked benefits with listening to Mozart, such as a claiming Mozart’s music influences brain development. A lot of scientists question the legitimacy of these studies and scientists have not yet understood the reason behind the effect, which is a phenomenon referred to by researchers and scientists as the ‘Mozart Effect’.

Regarding the study with a link to listening to Mozart and visual improvement, it is not clear if the findings are a direct link with listening to Mozart or the fact that the students’ senses were being stimulated directly with music for 10 minutes before the test. This is because the test has not yet been repeated with other music or musicians.

Even though the study has not 100% proved that listening to Mozart will improve your vision, it certainly isn’t going to hurt listening to it, and if it does improve your vision that’s great. You should probably keep seeing your eye doctor or optician for your regular sight test, maybe they might even notice an improvement.
