What is a cataract and what are cataract symptoms?

A cataract is the natural ageing process of the eye, where the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy with time.

If you look at the eye model here, you can see that this is the front of the eye, which is called the cornea. If you look inside the eye, behind the cornea you have what we call the iris diaphragm, or the pupil. Behind the pupil, you have your natural lens.

That is the natural lens which is clear through all our life, but when we hit age 60 or 70, the lens starts to get cloudy.

When the lens starts to become cloudy, it obviously obstructs the light going through to reach the back of the eye, which is the retina, and that is when patients start to complain about visual symptoms.
